Knitted Wire Mesh Gaskets Description 

Weaved mesh gaskets are made of Monel alloy, aluminum, stainless steel or tinned copper-clad steel wire woven into continuous sections or strips. Using this technique, a range of tough, resilient gasket sections can be produced, providing excellent shielding properties due to the large number of direct metal-to-metal contact points.

Knitted wire mesh gaskets do not provide any environmental seal on their own, but can be used in combination with conventional elastomer gasket sections to provide any required level of EMI shielding and environmental seal.

Knitted Wire Mesh Gaskets Type 

1. Solid mesh

Knitted mesh can be formed in various sections, usually square, rectangular or circular. Due to their high metal density, these sections provide very good shielding properties, but require relatively high compression forces. Typically, these sections are bonded to a sponge rubber bearing strip to form a composite seal, and the total compression force required is minimized by keeping the woven mesh section small.

Small compression mesh gaskets in the form of gaskets, cylinders, etc., can be made by using a compression tool to form a knitted mesh. These gaskets provide robust, reliable contact and are ideal for grounded applications.

2. Elastomer cored mesh

These gaskets are partially made by braided wire directly on the extruded elastomer core, providing the combined advantages of good shielding performance provided by knitting mesh and the flexibility of the elastomer core and low compression permanent deformation.

3. Knitted Mesh Belt (" Flat ")

Knitted mesh can form strips or bands up to 500 mm wide, but are more common between 20 mm and 100 mm. In this form, it is well suited to cable shielding.

4. Frame mounting gasket

Knitted mesh gaskets and where they need to be combined with an environmental seal can be fixed to an aluminium alloy frame. This, in turn, can be pre-drilled so that the gasket assembly can be easily installed or changed as needed. The gasket portion is securely secured, eliminating the need to add this feature to the housing/hole itself.
